My Mom's New Aunty
My mom had an aunt, she was the most generous person I've ever met in my entire life. If she had a piece of bread she would share that with you and anyone else who needed it. When she was around eighty five, she had hip fracture, since she lived alone in her house; my aunts brought a private nurse for her to take care of her. This nurse was a sixty years old widow, with no children, no relatives, no home, she didn't have anyone left from her own family. She was taking care of another old lady who passed away one week before my aunts talked to her. She accepted the offer to take care of my mom's aunt with great pleasure. She was a very kind lady, took great care of her. There is a saying if you live with a tribe for forty days you can either become like them or leave them. As time passed by, she gradually became as generous as my mom's beloved aunt. My mom's aunt lived around ninety three then she passed away. This nurse took care of her for eight years. My mom and her sisters used to treat her as if she is their own aunt. They asked to this nurse to stay and live in their aunt's house as long as she is alive without any compensation. So my mom and her sisters found a new auntie, it's true that they lost one but they found another, much younger aunt. She used to come to our house frequently, they used to take her to shopping and they treated her like their own aunt. My parents celebrate Christmas with great celebration. All the dynasty would gather together and celebrate the event with carols, music, prayers, presents and lots of food. I remember when we gave her the present, she read the pink card that says "to our lovely aunt" we could see her tears crawling down her face. When she could finally speak, she said God never forgets anyone, and He always puts great people in our way to help us in our paths. She thanked all of them for making her feel as family. I learned about philanthropy from home, from my parents and their parents. Philanthropy is not only donating millions and millions of dollars but donating anything that you can as long as you are helping someone with what you donate. It could be your belongings, you wealth or even your time, the effort you make to help others is what counts the most. |
