How To Start A Website

From No Knowledge On How To Make A Website - To Success

This is a website I built with no knowledge on how to start a website. I get countless emails and comments on how wonderful people believe my site to be which is amazing to me because I didn't know how to make a website when I first began this amazing and successful journey.

Regarding how to start a website, here is a letter I recently received from someone who also has his own successful websites. His, and my success... can be yours.

Letter to the Editor of Power of Giving:

"Connie - I fell in love with your website the first time I came across it. The power, or benefit, of giving is obvious for the recipient, of course. But as many others have pointed out, the benefit to the giver is just as powerful, and in some cases even greater.

Like you, I operate a website. I currently operate three. The newest of the three, and the one receiving most of my attention these days, is www.real-austin-texas.com, a travel guide and local resource directory for tourists and locals alike.

Building the website has been a blast. And it’s a classic example of how the act of giving really benefits the giver. I love Austin, Texas – it’s been terrific to me since I moved here in 1997. And part of the motivation for building the site was my attempt to, in some admittedly inadequate way, give something back to this city.

But in the process, I feel like I’ve gained more than I’ve given. As I delve deeper into the history of Austin, and as I learn the back stories of more and more of the individuals who built this city, or various corners of it, I find myself feeling more grateful and more wealthy.

Beginning in September of 2009, I also initiated my own mini-philanthropy program. I’ve committed to making a (modest) donation to a different local Austin charity or nonprofit organization each month.

As I state at www.real-austin-texas.com/austin-nonprofit.html, the page where I chronicle and track these contributions, “the amounts I contribute aren't going to get my name engraved on anything anytime soon.”

But it’s still been an exciting and fulfilling undertaking. It’s quickly become the one thing on my to do list that I really look forward to each month.

I publicize the list of organizations I’ve supported on my site for a variety of reasons. First, it’s a way for me to be held accountable. A commitment seems to take on extra significance the more people there are who know about it.

It’s also my way of encouraging others to do something similar. Giving is both fun and fulfilling. I encourage everyone to become mini-philanthropists themselves and maintain their own list of organizations whose values they share and whose work they support.

Third, it’s also a way to spotlight worthy local nonprofits that otherwise might not get a lot of attention. In most communities, there are wonderful organizations doing wonderful work. And I think most people would be willing to support some of that work if they only knew about it.

And finally, as you’ve repeatedly demonstrated with www.power-of-giving.com, there is tremendous power when you combine the act of giving with a sense of community. This then is my attempt to tap into and release some of that power.

Thanks for the opportunity to share – Brad Castro"

In the process of how to start a website, Brad also used the same technique I did to build his site and he too has a great, successful site that visitors actually come to.
