Hedley Senior Citizens

My name is Patsy Spier and I am the Director of the Hedley Senior Citizens in Hedley, Texas. We are a 501c3 Non-Profit Senior Citizens Organization - I.D. # 75-1955315.

Hedley is about 80 miles SE of Amarillo, Texas right on Highway 287 in the Texas Panhandle.

We have a population of 379 people and our main street is one block long and all we have in our town is a good school, 3 churches, Post Office, Justice of the Peace, Senior Citizens and a hardware store.

Our Senior Citizens serves about 50 elderly people per day, 5 days a week, covering about a 30 mile radius including 20 home bound.

We are working out of a 105 year old building that is basically falling apart. With the costs of utilities, fuel and foods we are in need of financial help in order to keep our doors open to better serve the elderly in this small and rural community which is below the poverty level.

We do get some federal funding, about $3,500.00 a month, from the Amarillo Area on Aging, but that is just not enough.

We are supported mostly by donations.

Our meals are $3.00 each for people over 60 and $5.00 each for under 60 and some of little elderly people can't even pay the $3.00 (which is a suggested donation).

Our gas bill for the last couple of Decembers has been around $700.00 and it is nothing but this old building.

Also, if we could find someone to help us with a new building we would be able to make ends meet a little better. It does not have to be fancy just workable, up to code and handicapped accessible; a metal building would work.

Our building now is not even handicapped accessible. We don't even have central heat and air. Our furnace does not keep us warm in the winter and the air conditioner does not keep us cool in the summer.

We have 5 lots across the street ready and we have the community's support, but we need help.

If we could get a metal building and have electricity and plumbing it would be wonderful.

We can probably use some of our equipment although we could use some new freezers, tables and chairs.

Thank you for your consideration and we pray you can help in some way. If you have any questions please contact us through the comment section on this page.

We will be glad to send more pictures and any other info you need.

Thanks,
Patsy Spier

Patsy,

I can't get the wiring photo to show up in the section below where I tried to post it. I will see if I get it on the main part of the page some where as soon as I can.

Old Building Wiring
by: Patsy

I just sent our story in on another part of this web page (Philanthropy button). I am sending contact info now plus our story in better form plus a picture. I have about 6 good pictures to send, but you only asked for 1 and I thought this would give you an idea. It is a picture of our wiring in this 105 year old building.
