Giving Rewards
by John
Random acts of kindness; sometimes you give even when you think you can't afford to because the giving rewards can be too great to ignore. I can tell you a family story that does not always sound pretty. My brother Rick had a child by a woman who was killed in a car accident. She had two children and the oldest one was to go back to her sisters. Her husband and father of this child had died several years before my brother met her. My brother had legally claimed the second child as his but the family did not want him to have this child. Rick's family was not much better. Our parents had passed away and we had two girls trying to claim everything. My youngest brother and I went out of our way to help Rick and we gave him the money to file legal papers to do whatever had to be done. Bink, my other brother, took the money from his 401 and gave it to Rick and I sent him $2000. Now he won the legal battle to keep his child and we are very happy about that. But he also turned back to the two people who gave him the most trouble and decided he wanted to be with them. Now Bink has 3 kids of his own and times are kind of hard for him. I send him money every now and then to try to help him out. We were very close growing up but sometimes people change and we will never understand why things happen the way they do. I do know that I have a son who is very close to Bink and I want things to remain that way. I will be very happy to help with whatever I can. I think that Bink, Rick and I will always stick together because we all realize that we need each other. Like I said, sometimes you give even when you think you can't afford to because the giving rewards can be too great to ignore. |
