DESIREE'S STORY:

My name is Desiree and I'm a 36 year old single parent who is doing my best to raise 4 wonderful children.

God blessed me with 4 boys,(ages 18,17,13 and 10),who have been mature enough to understand what it means to struggle inside the home but not let it affect them in a negative way when they are away from home.

I'm living on Public Housing with limited income to support us. I was working at the hospital as a Certified Nursing Assistant, but my car broke down and it made it hard for me to get back and forth to work. In order for me to avoid negative work credibility I put in my 2 week resignation, because I had no one to turn to for help.

It's so hard trying to stay afloat just to maintain household bills.I find myself crying and praying many nights from the thoughts of not being able to give my children the small things they desire to have.

I know that trouble or hard times don't last always and even though my boys walk with a high level of love, dignity, strength and respect without complaint... I'm still frustrated because I can't reward them with anything more than hugs and kisses to show them how much I appreciate them. It hurts deeply!!!

The good news is that they all have dreams and aspirations to be greater than the situation they've seen me go through with them.

My oldest son, Dennis is in college majoring in Business Administration and has already made the Dean's list his 1st year.

My 2nd son, Donte plans to go to college and major in Recording Engineering.

My 3rd child, Larry wants to go to college and is thinking towards a major in either Business or Music.

My 4th son, Keon is already making his plans on going to college as well. He's more of an entertainer so the options are still open for him.

I'm still very proud at the direction they desire to go.

I shared all of that with you because I need your help. I have a 1991 Honda Accord that needs to be fixed and it's going to cost around $1725 with maintenance/fees included that I don't have.

As a single parent always trying to do the best I can, I'm asking that you allow your heart to lead you in any help towards getting it fixed. Every bit of it will help. Whatever you can do would be very much appreciated and from my family to your heart...THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!

Hi Kasie,
I really appreciate your gift and your words of encouragement. I showed my boys the the donation you gave and the comment you submitted. Keon looked at me and said,"mommy does this mean we'll be getting our car fixed soon?" My eyes filled with joyful tears because I seen how your hearts giving gave more than hope for me..it gave my son excitement and a sense in knowing that in due time everything with be alright. I've learned that through struggles..it is possible to survive and it's people like you who help to make that possibility a reality. THANK YOU sooo much!!! May God Bless You for what you have done for us.

Trust me..it gets better!
by: Anonymous

Dear Desiree,

My name is Kasie, and I'm a college student in Oklahoma City. You're story really touched my heart, because I was raised by a single mother who struggled to pay the bills. I remember one winter, we actually slept on the floor in our kitchen with the oven on for warmth! Yes, we struggled..and most of the time I went without material things, but to this day I think my mother is the greatest woman in the whole wide world!! I hope that you realize your children appreciate you every single day, and that no amount of money or gifts can ever replace the love and respect you show them! I have started you off with what I can offer at the moment, and hope this gets the ball rolling! Good Luck!
