Free Meal
by Dennis
When does a free meal become a random act of kindness? My wife and I wear eating out one evening at our favorite Mexican Restaurant. As we entered the restaurant, we noticed a good friend and his wife sitting on the other side of the room. After the waitress seated us, we went over and greeted them, and visited for a minute or two. We ordered, ate, and had a pleasant evening together. I was waiting for the waitress to bring us our meal check, but wasn't in a big hurry. After all, we were having a pleasant time together. Finally, I ask our waitress for the check. She smiled big and said, "There isn't one, that gentleman over in that booth paid for your meals". What a good feeling I felt. Not because of the money saved, but because of the giving ways of my good friend. About 6 months later, I happened to eat out at the same restaurant. There, in a side room was this same friend and his wife. He didn't see me, and I wasn't about to go greet him, because I had "payback" in mind. I wanted to stay out of his sight, which I did. First opportunity I had, I caught the eye of his waitress and motioned for her to come over to my table. We conspired against him. The deed was done. His meals were paid for this time. It was a great feeling, and has created a bond between our families that has lasted for many years. Since his good example of a random act of kindness, I have made it a habit to pay it forward to others. Maybe my good deed will help another start the ball rolling in their life. You can't buy the good feeling you receive!
