Charity Cars

What's a good option when you are considering donating something to Charity? Cars. Yep, you can donate cars, trucks and other motorized vehicles. You can even donate rv's.


And the good news... if you donate your vehicle to a charity that is classified under 501(c)[3] the donation is often tax deductible. So, not only are you helping someone but you get a tax break in the process. Nice!

Many organizations make it easy to donate your car. Why not, they know it can be an overwhelming decision. I mean, this is your vehicle we are talking about.

Some will take the vehicle whether it is running or not which is nice. Sometimes we have cars that don't run and we just don't know what to do with them. I dated someone that had a collection of non-running cars in his driveway (ahhh, the good ole' days, not). He just didn't know how to fix the problem so he just bought another. He was a perfect candidate for donating a car to charity.

Running or not, the exterior, and interior for that matter, should be in decent condition.  Think about it... it's only right.

Many will allow you to donate your vehicle even if you have misplaced the title. They will help you go through the process of acquiring a new one. How helpful is that?

Another bonus... some companies will come to you and pick the charity cars up. If it needs to be towed they will generally cover all towing costs. Again, very helpful.

In many cases, they can even pick the car up within 24 hours.

You can, of course, drop the vehicle off at their desiganted location if that is convenient for you.

There are organizations that allow you to choose where the proceeds from your vehicle will go and others that make the choice for you. You'll need to decide what is important to you.

Many people believe when they donate a car to charity, the car is given to a family in need. While this is the process in some cases it is not always done that way. Sometimes the cars are sold and the proceeds from the sale are donated to a charity of either your or the organizations choosing.
